Homemade baking conveys our sense of the moment, the time when we live, especially Ukrainian traditional baking.
Homemade baking is about memories, childhood, and home.
Our experiences, our feelings, thoughts, and mood, we convey and broadcast all this through the pastries we make with our own hands.
We pass our emotions through the dough: it is alive and has a soul.
If you look at the photo and study the history of cooking in different periods in Ukraine, you can see how home baking has changed and what ingredients were used (and not only in our country). But it exists, despite the hard times, famine, and wars: this is how we Ukrainians are. Home, cosiness, and cooking are necessary for us: we eager to share and treat. And it was baking that gave this feeling.⠀
Therefore, despite the war, people who go through difficult times at the same time are looking for utensils and ingredients to bake something for their children. That brings them a moment of stability and peace.
Every country has its traditional pastry. Location, availability of ingredients, unique local produce and people who bake influence recipes. We can follow such a pattern: simplicity, minimalism, a return to traditions, authenticity, without unnecessary decorations, and purity of taste. You want to feel something more than you can see.
We can easily name a country by seeing its traditional pastries.
Panettone – Italy
Stolen – Germany
Paska – Ukraine
Cinnamon rolls – Sweden
Pastel de nata – Portugal
And so in all countries. Baking unites. The first thing we do after visiting a country is to taste local pastries or confectionery.
The first thing we do when guests from other countries come to us is to treat them to our traditional pastries.
Baking can be different. The traditional one that we bake for the holidays. Homemade pies, muffins and other pastries for tea. Modern, which we order in cafes, are croissants, cupcakes, and brioches. Pastries for breakfast are so warm and delicious.
You will surely want to choose a recipe from the “Baking” section and cook it at home. Don’t be afraid if it’s your first time making dough – you will succeed, and it gets better and better every time. Being able to bake even basic pastries is a necessary skill. How else will you make your culinary dreams come true?!
