In this recipe we will make shortbread tubes to be filled with a delicious cheese filling. This appetizer will be a great addition to a festive meal, as with adding cheddar cheese for decoration, the tubes look like small carrots.
You can also serve cheese tubes as a part of breakfast with coffee.
Ingredients for shortbread
- 250 gr all-purpose flour
- 100 gr butter
- 1 egg
- 20-30 gr water
- 0.5 tsp of vinegar

Method of cooking
Grate cold butter into the flour. Quickly grind with your hands into fine crumbs.
Mix cold water, an egg and vinegar. Pour it in the flour and butter mix and knead the dough until the ingredients are combined.
Wrap the dough in food film and leave in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
Divide the dough into two parts. Roll out one part at a time.
Trim the uneven edges, and cut the dough into strips of approximately 30/3 cm. Keep the leftovers in the refrigerator and then also roll them out.
Wrap each tube with dough. While the first tubes are baked, keep the rest of the dough in the cold.
Grease the workpieces with egg yolk + milk mix. For this, mix the egg yolk with 20 gr of milk.
Bake the tubes at 200 °C until a beautiful golden color. Carefully remove the dough tubes and cool them down.
The recipe gets you 20 mini tubes.
- 200 gr cream cheese
- 100 gr Cheddar cheese
- 3 sprigs of dill
- 2 tbsp of garlic sauce or mayonnaise
If you do not want to use ready-made sauce, mix Greek yogurt, lemon juice, mustard, salt and pepper and season the filling.
Grate Cheddar cheese, leave a small part for decoration.
Mix well all the ingredients for the filling.
Transfer the mix to a pastry bag and fill the tubes.
Decorate each tube with Cheddar cheese.
