Let’s cook a meat bread for the festive Easter meal. Thanks to shortbread covering, the meat bread will not only be a separate dish, but the main decoration of the festive table. 


The tradition of baking a meat bread for Easter is very common in western Ukraine. You can spot this dish in every store or Easter markets a few days before the holiday.

Method of cooking

Quickly grate the butter into the flour. Crush it with your hands into crumbs.

Pour in the egg and milk int the butter and flour crumbs. Knead the shortbread dough. Try not to overheat it with your hands. Do everything quickly.

Roll the douth out between two sheets of baking parchment. Leave in the refrigerator for 1 hour.

Cut the shortbread dough into strips depending on the size of the mold.

Put the dough in a mold lined with baking parchment, freeze.

Method of cooking

Get a large bowl, and mix minced meat, an egg, cubed dried apricots, tomatoes and chopped pistachios.

Season the mix and add mustard and sauce, mix well.

Put a little less than half of the filling in the shortbread mold, place the boiled eggs in the middle, and then cover with the rest of the meat mix on top.

Cover with dough, pinching the edges. Use a knife to cut leaves or other patterns from the remaining dough and place them on top of the bread.

Grease well with egg yolk and milk.

Bake at 180°C for 1 hour. Remove from the oven and cool, then take the bread from the mold and slice.

  • be sure to line the baking mold with  baking  parchment;
  • from this quantity you can make two loaves of bread in smaller forms;
  • if meat juice appears on the surface during baking, open the oven and wipe with a paper towel.
